Our carriages are also equipped with air-conditioning, anti-impact and UV protected glazing. Along the journey, we offer to the passengers a tasty selection of sweet and savoury snacks, fruits and a variety of cold and warm beverages .

Upon arrival to Machu Picchu town you will be meet by a representative who will escort you to take the bus to the "Lost City of the Incas" which was discovered by American explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911 (25-minute motorcoach ride). Located on the left bank of the Vilcanota river lies the wonderful old city of Machu Picchu, which in quechua means "Old Mountain". According to research, Machu Picchu would have been one of the vacation residences of Pachacutec, the first Inca emperor between 1438 and 1470. However, some of its finest buildings and the evident ceremonial purpose of the main access road to the village, prove that it was used as a religious shrine. Machu Picchu is considered both a masterpiece of architecture and engineering because of its unique architectural and landscaping features. Prominent constructions among its buildings are the Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds, among others of singular architecture and importance. Your guide will narrate and explain all about this splendid citadel, which is a truly amazing experience. According to the train departure time, you can enjoy a delicious lunch before or after the start of the tour. Return by train to Ollanta Station and upon arrival you will be transferred to the hotel in Cusco.

Day 4: Colonial and Modern Lima Gastronomic Tour

Take a bite out of the real Lima with a visit to the bustling Surquillo market. The mercado is where locals do not just their everyday shopping but catch up on the latest news and gossip. You will find high quality food for astonishingly low prices. A wide range of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, meat, fish, seafood and even harder to find ingredients await you.

Enjoy watching a film on Peruvian food on the way to the famous El Bolivariano Tavern, which offers the best tastes of Lima, always being faithful to old recipes that are a part of this city's culture. Sip on a pisco sour, the national cocktail (made of pisco, lime or lemon juice, syrup and egg whites) while the chef demonstrates how to prepare ceviche. Make sure to leave some room in your stomach because another restaurant is coming up on the menu.

Stroll through San Isidro’s financial centre, golf club and Olive Grove Park; the city’s oldest. Explore Miraflores, where the ancient adobe pyramid of Huaca Pucllana is located. Experience the romantic ambience at Parque del Amor and take in the breathtaking views of the Pacific.

Continue to Lima’s old town and admire the Cathedral and colonial buildings surrounding the main plaza as well as the Presidential Palace, City Hall and the Archbishop’s Palace, and then visit the catacombs below the San Francisco Convent. At the end of the tour you can choose to either shop at a colourful Andean market or be dropped off at your accommodation.
